XCOM 2 Gets Cute With Animal Crossing, Hatsune Miku, And Undertale Mods

XCOM 2 is quite new, but a robust mod scene has sprung up around the game. Aside from some mods being available at launch, thanks to Long War Studios working with Firaxis Games, others have embraced the game to add their own special touches to the latest entry in the series. Three of the new mods available not only reference other video games, but help make XCOM 2 a little more cute.

To start, there’s a bit of Animal Crossing in XCOM 2. Dafini has made an optional character head for soldiers in the game, based on a similar mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Once enabled, a male or female soldier could look like a male villager from the game. You’ll find the option under Character Head Props in options.

Actually, Dafini has been quite busy when it comes to making XCOM 2 more adorable with mods. He’s also made it possible for everyone to look a little more like Hatsune Miku. People who look under hair, when making a character, will find her iconic twintails for every possible character. There is some clipping, and also some unexpected pink highlights, but it’s otherwise very accurate.

In Undertale, you can run into cat-dog Temmies in the Temmie Village. Piggles has turned them into a pattern that can be applied to clothing and guns. It’s adorable, even though you have to get in really close to see the Temmie. (It’d probably go well with the ACORG-47 Welsh Corgi-shaped gun.)

To install any of these mods and start using them in XCOM 2, head over to the Steam Workshop, subscribe to them, and you’ll be set. Each one will be usable in-game, making the fight against aliens a little more adorable.

XCOM 2 is immediately available for Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs.
