Nintendo Shows Super Mario Maker’s 6 New Features In Its March Update

On March 9, 2016, Super Mario Maker is going to get an update that will add new creation tools and features to the game. To prepare people, Nintendo has released a video that goes through all six of the additions.

The Super Mario Maker video begins by looking at the Skewer. You shake a Thwomp to make one appear in-game. P-Switches can be shaken to create Keys, and shaking a door three times makes a Key Door. Keys can be placed in blocks or attached to enemies, and Mario can carry as many as eight keys at once. Shaking a Coin makes a Pink Coin, which gives Mario a Key when collected. You can put up to 5 Pink Coins in an area.

The video also announces the new 100 Mario Challenge difficulty level. After beating it on the Expert level, the Super Expert mode will unlock. This sends you through six incredibly difficult levels, with only 100 lives to get you through it. 12 new costumes will be added to unlock via 100 Mario Challenge too, with Tetra from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker among them.

Also, tapping your User Info in Course World allows you to check failure points and comments in your courses. You go to a course you’ve uploaded to the internet, click the comment failure point icon, and you’ll be able to go through the level to see where people died and what they had to say about specific points.

Finally, the Super Mario Maker Bookmark website will get an update. You will be able to sort to see who has the most World Record clear times. You can choose to see World Records by All-Time and bookmark their World Record-setting courses. There will even be a Bookmark All button.

Super Mario Maker is immediately available for the Nintendo Wii U.
