Branching Paths, a documentary on the Japanese indie game development scene, will be releasing on Steam, Playism, and iTunes on July 29.

The documentary will delve into the struggles many Japanese independent developers meet in trying to create something without the backing of a large company, their desires to chase their own dreams, and how the movement to online storefronts is helping them get their games to players all over the world.

Telling a story of optimism as well as depression, it will detail how many developers are gambling with their own survival by choosing to create games on their own.
