God Eater 2: Rage Burst Lets You Earn Your Ideal Loadout And Crew

Recommended Videos

Games that fall into the same category as God Eater 2: Rage Burst all try to give people some element of choice. When you create a character, you’re given a range of hairstyles, colors, voices, and other options to set yourself apart. And of course many of these games have crafting systems, so you can put together and earn your own weapons and armor. But with God Eater 2: Rage Burst, there are these additional customization options that help make the game even better. Your own efforts are always making your experience better.

The crafting menu in God Eater 2: Rage Burst is quite detailed. Creating new equipment is a good start. Weapons and their upgrades will show up in the list as you unlock new missions and collect items. These can be crafted when you have gathered the appropriate items from Aragami. Taking on some of the early Hard Missions is a good way to stock up in the first few hours! These typically don’t have more challenging monsters, instead offering greater numbers of them in the field. Going through with a full team will let you swiftly accrue materials of all kinds, even rarer ones. These can then be used for new weapons or the parts needed for weapon upgrades.

It’s important to make good use of Devour combos to collect these materials. Fortunately, they’re to pull off. When using one of God Eater 2: Rage Burst’s melee weapons, repeatedly press the square button, before pressing the right trigger and triangle at once for a quick devour. Doing so while an Aragami is alive will give you a bullet, and again immediately after it falls will provide materials. Between these and the material crafting menu, which allows you to pay a fee to turn tickets and accrued, common items into the things you need, it’s possible to build the arsenal and wardrobe you expect from a hunting RPG such as this. And it’s all happening because you’re efficient.

Of course there is the bullet creating system. It’s one of the God Eater series’ most notable and complicated systems. People can build their own bullets, adding attributes and effects to them to adjust the damage and symptoms they can inflict on enemies. You can spend hours of experimenting and testing to build the bullets that will make a difference. (Though, admittedly, I prefer to rely on other people’s wisdom.) Regardless, effort is being put in by somebody. Which means you can put together a loadout in God Eater 2: Rage Burst that is as impressive as the one you’d find in any equivalent game.

What people might appreciate most is all the ways the skills tied to characters and weapons can also be adjusted and improved. The ability to rebuild and install skills can make as big a different going into more dangerous missions as making sure you have created the best weapons possible at the moment. After each mission, you’ll acquire abandoned God Arcs. These can be combined to first rebuild a skill for a particular kind of weapon. Once you have them, you can install skills on the weapons you like best. Perhaps the best part of this means no two weapons will be the same, as you can cater them to your build. This all only happens when you take the time to go out there and tackle missions, perhaps repeatedly, in hopes of getting pieces that work for you.

The Personal Ability system is another means of creating a party that fits your needs. When beating a mission, you earn GAP the first time you beat standard missions or on some special missions. Each mission participant also earns AP after a mission. You expend both on Personal Abilities for people you’re taking with you to hunt Aragami, again letting you build the exact team you want. Julius arrives fully decked out with great skills, but you get to gradually accumulate others. For example, I’ve always had Nana and Gilbert learn varying levels of Venom Hits and Bind Hits to increase the odds of the skills triggering, while also making sure Nana has supportive skills and Gilbert has offensive ones. By working with your crew, they grow into the people you need.

Even the Blood Arts system has you working toward being a better, more unique God Eater. God Eater 2: Rage Burst’s Blood Arts system basically assigns a weapon tree to weapons. The more you fight, the more likely you are to learn Blood Art skills that you can equip and use once per battle. Except, it isn’t as simple as earning experience points from each fight, as you might in other RPGs. The Blood Arts are tied to specific actions and attacks, and will only have a chance of Awakening after you’ve used them a specific number of times. Which is a more realistic system. You’re earning these abilities through practical applications.

Every step of the way, God Eater 2: Rage Burst is letting you work your way to the God Eater you want to be. You’re getting the chance to not only build your melee weapon and gun, assigning the skills, bullets, and attributes you might want, but also creating the skills you’ll need, working with your fellow teammates to build up their abilities, and awakening your Blood Arts. It’s a very customizable action RPG, but in a way that makes you feel a sense of satisfaction from legitimately acquiring everything.

God Eater 2: Rage Burst is available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC.
