Square Enix shared the latest on Dragon Quest XI with some details and screenshots on the protagonist, his partner Camus, as well as the world we’ll journey in the upcoming RPG.

On the PlayStation 4 version of Dragon Quest XI, we’ll see vast beautiful fields full of flowers and trees, flowing waterfalls, and monsters depicted splendidly. We’ll also get to watch the livelihood of townsfolk in detail as well.

In the 3DS version of the game, we’ll get to see both the “3D Mode” on the top screen as well as the old school-style in the “2D Mode” on the bottom screen. As you advance further into your adventure, you’ll get to choose between both modes. You’ll also get to switch between modes at a certain spot.

The protagonist is a young man who lives in the quiet village of Ishii. After turning 16, he goes through a coming-of-age ceremony and finds out a shocking truth—that he’s the reincarnation of a “hero” who once saved the world, and that he must now take on a big mission.

Camus is a reliable partner. He’s a blue-haired thief who meets the protagonist during his journey. He can be rough around the edges when it comes to speech and behavior, but he’s loyal and honest with a kind heart. As a seasoned traveler, he’ll guide and support the protagonist as his partner.

Dragon Quest XI takes place in the world of Lotozetasia. All life in this world is said to have originated from a sacred tree known as the “Great Tree of Life.”

The above is a look at the great tree floating in the middle of the world. They say that the hero has a deep connection with the tree, and can even spiritually communicate with the tree.

The protagonist starts off in the village of Ishi, located around a quiet ravine. The people of Ishi live in peace and worship the spirit of earth. There aren’t many shops and facilities, but they proper in livestock and you can often see horses around these parts.

Those of Ishi who turn 16 must partake in a tradition that requires climbing a rocky mountain called the “Rock of God,” which is said to have the spirit of earth dwelling in the area.

 

Dragon Quest XI releases in 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS. The game is also in development for Nintendo Switch.
