NieR: Automata Footage Has Quests And Customizations, New Merchandise Revealed

Recommended Videos

Square Enix hosted a live stream earlier today for NieR: Automata, where we got to see plenty of gameplay for the action RPG with questing, some customization, and another look at collaboration weapons.

The above is an archive of the live stream, where we get to see them take on sub-quests at around the 24:15 mark of the video. The sub-quest takes place as the Resistance camp, where we get to see a bit of Anemone as they take on quests.

Next up, we get to check out the “Plug-In Chip” system at around the 35:53 part of the footage. This feature allows you to customize skills and more in a variety of ways, which you can read more about in our earlier report.

At around the 50:42 mark of the video, they show us some more footage of the collaboration weapons including its “Iconic Crossover Weapons” with the “Cypress Stick” from the Dragon Quest series that brings up DQ-style numbers and a familiar-looking treasure chest, and Noctis’ “Engine Blade” from Final Fantasy XV that has FFXV-like effects.

Here’s a look at some new merchandise that was shown off during the stream:

Additionally, it was revealed in the live stream that NieR: Automata will see a collaboration with Japanese alt-rock band, Amazarashi with a track called “Inochi ni Fusawashii” (Good for Life). Hiromu Akita, the lead singer of the band, said that he’s a huge fan of NieR, and that’s how the collaboration started. Director Yoko Taro said “This should be something that will make both NieR fans and amazarashi fans happy” about the collaboration. Producer Yosuke Saito said the song “practically brought him to tears” and that it brings a completely different feeling before and after playing the game.

NieR: Automata releases in Japan on February 23, North America on March 7, and Europe on March 10, 2017 for PlayStation 4. The PC version will be available sometime in 2017.
