Rumors suggest Microsoft and PlatinumGames’ Scalebound, an action-RPG following a man named Drew and his dragon, Thuban, has been canceled. Unseen64’s Liam Robertson, Kotaku, and Eurogamer have all allegedly spoken to sources saying the Xbox One and PC game will not be released in 2017 as previously planned.

Robertson first brought the news up on Twitter, stating he had heard rumors of Scalebound’s demise while researching a video on the development of The Wonderful 101, PlatinumGames’ Nintendo Wii U exclusive. Kotaku followed with a news story, saying sources it had spoken to were also saying the game will not be released. It also noted that Microsoft said a statement on Scalebound’s status would be made soon and that the game’s Xbox website page had been removed. Eurogamer’s sources suggest that problems with the project arose after Gamescom 2016, which led to a break for senior members of the team at PlatinumGames and the game getting behind schedule.

Update: Microsoft has confirmed Scalebound‘s cancellation. No explanation was offered.

Development on Scalebound began in 2013, and it was first announced at E3 2014. The Hideki Kamiya game was originally supposed to be released in late 2016, but was delayed last year. It was going to be released worldwide on the Xbox One and PC. PlatinumGames’ official Scalebound website is still online.
