In Vidar, players seek to make their way through a puzzling labyrinth. For every day they don’t make it, though, a random NPC will die, having drastic changes to the town, its people, and the story.
All of the NPCs in Vidar have connections with each other in various ways. As such, when an NPC is randomly killed by the forces the player is trying to stop, the behavior of other townsfolk will change. Should the developer lose their supplier or their apprentice, it will change the quests they give as well as their use in the game. Should the blacksmith die, that will change things for the other characters.
Deaths will also be reflected in the general look and activities of the town, as NPCs will also have jobs and tasks they do. As these go unattended, the city will change.
As players deal with the chain reactions of NPC deaths, they will also be trying to acquire tools and figure out the puzzles in a randomly generated labyrinth. This maze will draw from various possible puzzles and situations, forcing players to rethink their strategy on each run at the game and forcing different needs on the player.
