In addition to this morning’s Mario Kart 8 Deluxe trailer, Nintendo has released details on all of the Battle Modes Nintendo Switch owners will be able to explore in the title. In addition to the classic Balloon Battle and brand new Renegade Roundup, people will be able to enjoy Mario Kart: Double Dash!!’s Bob-omb Blast and Shine Thief again, as well as Mario Kart Wii’s Coin Runners.
Each of these competitive Mario Kart 8 Deluxe modes involves working for your own gain and the downfall of another. Balloon Battle is about popping the balloons tied to your opponent’s kart, while preserving your own. In Renegade Roundup, one team is trying to catch the other with Piranha Plants and throw them in jail, while the other is trying to evade capture and escape from jail when captured. Bob-omb Blast involves collecting Bob-ombs and tossing them at enemies to increase your own standing. In Shiny Thief, you have to collect and hold the Shiny Sprite for a 20 count, all while trying to evade others who want to do the same. Finally, Coin Runners is about collecting every possible coin.
The multiplayer options for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe were also summarized. You can have up to 12 player online or LAN multiplayer sessions. Up to two people can use one Switch during LAN play. Of course, split-screen local multiplayer for up to four players is still supported.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe comes to the Nintendo Switch on April 28, 2017.
