Mages of Mystralia Offers Deep Spell Customization For Its Cute Spellcasting Heroine

Zia, the heroine of top-down magic action game Mages of Mystralia, has hundreds of spells at her disposal to face down the various goblins, evil trees, and political figures that threaten her land, able to tweak her magics as she sees fit with a deep, yet easy-to-use rune system.

Zia has four spells available to her at any given time: a melee-ranged electrical spell, a fireball, a blast of ground-freezing ice, and a magical shield. From these four bases, players will be able top build countless variants on these spells using a rune tree, collecting runes they find in the environment and adding them onto the spells. These runes add properties like longer distances, curved firing ranges, longer durations, and other spell-changing effects.

These runes can do more than just alter damage radii or minor effects, as many of these runes will dramatically change how the spell functions. Ice magic can be altered to create a bridge, melee lightning can chain between anyone standing nearby, and the shield can become a damaging dash using the correct array of runes.

Players will find themselves using these various spells against many different monsters, but they’ll have to do so in secret for some time. Magic has been outlawed in the world of Mages of Mystralia, and so Zia will have to cast her spells when no one is looking, as well as keep her magical trainers hidden as she slowly uncovers the real plot as to why magic is being suppressed.

Offering a story penned by Forgotten Realms creator Ed Greenwood and a complex, yet approachable spellcrafting system, Mages of Mystralia is available now on Steam.
