The Nintendo Switch just got a lot more exciting for horse-racing fans, as Koei Tecmo announced Champion Jockey Special, which brings together Gallop Racer and G1 Jockey in one title. Here are more details from this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine.[Thanks, Hachima.]
In the game’s story mode, you’ll make a debut as a newcomer jockey, and it’ll be all about topping other rivals to become the leading jockey. It’ll have data that goes up to 2017 of the Japan derby and it’ll add 2,500 racehorses that have been around since the last game six years ago.
The horseracing part of the game lets you choose out of three styles:
- GR (Gallop Racer) Style: A refreshing style with simple controls that make it easier to play.
- GIJ (G1 Jockey) Style: More focus on realism. Careful controls needed.
- Custom Style: You can combine both GR Style and G1J styles to fit your liking.
On the visual side, you’ll see changes in background according to the season and weather. Hurdle races are also being implemented.
Champion Jockey Special will also work with Winning Post 8 on Switch. For example, you’ll get to use a jockey that was raised in Champion Jockey Special and have them appear in Winning Post 8. On the other hand, you can also get a horse that was raised in Winning Post 8 and use it as your racehorse in Champion Jockey Special.
Champion Jockey Special releases in Japan on September 14 for Nintendo Switch. It’ll cost 7,800 yen plus tax.
