Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata has been busy working on “expanding the universe” for the RPG with Episode Ignis and the PC port, but he also has a new project that we’ll hear about next year. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089.]

In the latest issue of Famitsu magazine, Hajibe Tabata said that he “plans to seriously begin working on the new project starting next year.”

He also added “I want to take on a new challenge that allows to me to further expand from the work I’ve done on Final Fantasy XV.”

Tabata previously mentioned that he’d like to give players a Breath of the Wild-like experience for his next project, but we haven’t heard much more about it since then. In any case, we’ll likely hear more about it after the release of the PC version of Final Fantasy XV sometime in early 2018.

Final Fantasy XV is available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
