Metal Gear Survive Has Items That Both Help And Entertain

Being a Metal Gear game means sometimes you do something you might not expect in Metal Gear Survive. After all, this is a series where we have seen Snake wear silly outfits, Psycho Mantis “read” our memory card and use ketchup to escape a prison. Of course some unexpected things will happen here too. While some of them make sense, like making your base into a farm, you can also do unexpected things like set up a radio station.

Something I did not expect was how helpful farming could actually be. It is possible to find a number of great crops in the world and capture animals like goats or sheep for on-demand food. For example, I have found corn, potatoes, onions and tomatoes while exploring, which I was then able to build farms for each that would grow produce every few hours. Once I had cages, which sometimes end up being a reward for participating in multiplayer missions, I could punch an animal, use a portal and then have them head back to base.

One of the unexpected things in Metal Gear Survive is how Revival Pills are made. This essential item can heal you when you die. But, it comes from something you might find useless. If you hold food in your inventory for too long, it can become spoiled food. If you then take spoiled food and put it in the storehouse, it will eventually turn into Kitchen Waste. When you get 30 of these, you can combine them with Kuban to make the wonderful Revival Pills.

Another thing are tapes with classic songs from the Metal Gear series. Two of the things you can build at your base are a Broadcast Facility and Broadcast Tower, which let you play tapes and broadcast tapes you have found over a set distance. As you explore Metal Gear Survive’s world, you may come across chests. Every once in a while, one of these will have a tape with a song from an older Konami or Metal Gear game on it. I have found “Calling to the Night,” from Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, and and “Sins of the Father,” from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. But, those are only two of many. People have been reporting getting Metal Gear songs like “Heaven’s Divide,” “Snake Eater” and “Zanzibar Breeze.” You can also find songs from Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand, Castlevania, Contra, Policenauts, and Snatcher.

These are just a few of the things I have seen happen in Dite in Metal Gear Survive. After all, I am not quite going out of my way to find everything just yet. The more you explore, the more you will find. Especially if you want more clothing option, music and recipes. It is a big game and, with Konami announcing more co-op missions, it could get even bigger.

Metal Gear Survive is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
