Sega shared a new trailer for Valkyria Chronicles 4 that basically tells us everything we need to know about its “BLiTZ” battle system, a look at the new Grenadier class, and the “Brave” system that activates at 0 HP.
The video starts out with a demonstration of its “BLiTZ” battle system that combines stretgy with action elements. Battles consist of two main modes that you’ll be splitting between. Command Mode where most of the strategies are involved with unit movements and Action Mode where you take control of a unit to take out enemies. You’ll advance through the battlefield using both of these modes.
Units can either be an infantry unit that runs out there to shoot enemies, or they can also drive an armed vehicle equipped with powerful weapons and the ability to carry other infantry units.
At the 1:27 mark we get a look at the new Grenadier Class that attacks using a grenade launcher from a distance. Grenadiers can attack enemies that are out of their sight as long as another allied unit can see their location.
When an ally’s HP reaches 0, they’ll be knocked out and in a critical condition. They can be saved by allies, but if three turns go by or they’re attacked by enemies, the party member will be lost for good. However, there’s also a new system called “Brave” that has a chance of activating when a unit’s HP hits 0. If you’re lucky, the unit can “Stand Up” and take one action while temporarily receiving no damage for a chance, or they can also use “Entrust” to provide buffs and +1 CP to the nearest ally.
Lastly, the trailer shows the “Order” system that allows you to use CP in Command Mode to perform special actions, and the “Personal Potential” is where a unit can tap into their unique set of skills to help them in battle.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 releases in Japan on March 21, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and on Nintendo Switch in Summer 2018. The game is expected to release this year in North America and Europe for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
