Despite Valkyria Chronicles 4 having a similar-looking snowy aesthetic to each battle, the game looks to be filled with various gimmicks such as decoy tanks, avalanches, and literal fog-of-war, in the latest trailer released by Sega.
In one stage, players will have to find enemy tanks in a snowy field, but it might just turn out to be a wooden decoy to throw you off. In another stage, Claude and Squad E need to swiftly take care of falling bombs. There are other snow-based gimmicks, such as the cold weather reducing the amount of turns a character is able to be saved before permadeath occurs, and Blizzards which increase the amount of AP used to traverse the field. Avalanches can also occur.
The trailer also showed off several other conditions, such as Thick Fog, which means enemy troops cannot be seen unless they are extremely close. In another area on fire, shooting explosive materials causes the whole path to be blocked off by flames, and can only be traversed by vehicles.
