Square Enix Maintains KH3’s 2018 Release, Expects More Blockbusters And Mid-Ranged Titles

Square Enix shared its financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2018. Its insight in the digital entertainment segment provides a look at how the company performed and some future plans.

The above chart shows Square Enix’s net sales and operating income for the fiscal year ended March 2018 in comparison to the previous four years. While net sales declined due to a decrease of the number of new blockbuster titles compared to fiscal year 2017, the company saw strong performance of digital sales that resulted in an increase of operating income.

 

The major titles that launched in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2018 are Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, Dragon Quest XI, Fortune Street: Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, and Final Fantas XV Royal Edition.

In the next chart it shows that due to the increased revenue of digital sales, the operating income margin of HD business improved drastically compared with the previous fiscal year.

 

Here are some plans from Square Enix for the current Fiscal Year (ending March 31, 2019):

  • Expand our IP portfolio through major releases of existing and new IPs, and further improve profitability by digital sales.
  • Expect an increase in revenue in FY2019/3 thanks to launches of multiple blockbuster and mid-sized titles.

 

As for already-announced titles in the pipieline for FY2019, we have Octopath Traveler (July 13, 2018), Shadow of the Tomb Raider (September 14, 2018), and it’s also interesting to see that the company is maintaining Kingdom Hearts III’s 2018 release.
