The PSN name change feature has been officially announced by Sony. The feature is first going to appear in the PlayStation Preview Program as part of a beta, which will run until November 2018 ends. It will then roll out to everyone worldwide in early 2019.

Registered PlayStation 4 system software beta testers will be the first to test the PSN name change option feature, after it rolls out. The first time you change your name, it will be free. Subsequent name changes will cost money, with it being $4.99 for PlayStation Plus members and $9.99 for everyone else.

Details about how the PSN name change will work were also revealed. Older PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita games may not support the feature and could experience errors as a result. Some PlayStation 4 games released before April 1, 2018 and all published after that date will support the feature. A compatibility list will be announced and Sony will allow people to revert back to their old name. Also, after you do change your name, you could display your old one to help people recognize who you are.

The PSN name change feature will be available for everyone in early 2019.
