In a recent interview with Famitsu, Capcom Producer Jun Takeuchi talked about how the first development division of Capcom has expanded and hinted at a new title that’s coming from Capcom.

Here are the highlights:

Firstly, please tell us what sort of division CS Development Division 1 is like.

Jun Takeuchi, Producer: “We’re a department focusing on making titles for a worldwide audience, with the Resident Evil series and Devil May Cry 5 being at the forefront. However, with the global hit of Monster Hunter: World, we’re starting to feel that the gap between games aimed towards local and worldwide audiences has disappeared.”

With the imminent release of Resident Evil 2, has the structure of CS Development Division 1 changed?

Takeuchi: “Actually, while Resident Evil 7 was in development, we had already begun development on Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5. These three teams developing these three titles are the main workforce of CS Dev 1. We’re slowly adding staff, and planning to be able to handle four large-scale games sometime soon.”

Resident Evil 2 comes out January 25, 2019, while the original game released in 1998 came out on January 21. Resident Evil 7 was released January 24, 2017, making it a string of January releases. Is this a coincidence, or something that’s intentional?

Takeuchi: “There are quite a few reasons, but the biggest reason is that we hope people remember Capcom games as coming out in January. If I had to give my straight feelings, it’s a message to other developers saying, “Please avoid releasing your games in this month if you can.”

Could you please tell us what’s in store for CS Development Division 1 in the future?

Takeuchi: “First we’d like to release Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 for everyone to play. Then we’d like to move onto new challenges. Also, the customers’ voices are very important. Things like, “It would have been better if this were done”, “I’d like this”, are things we want to pay attention to.

I believe future Resident Evil series games will see a big change in the future, and until then, we’d like to store our strength in order to make it an ideal game. On a separate note, we’re currently developing a title that’ll make people surprised to the point they’ll say, “They’re developing something like that?”.”

Resident Evil 2 will be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 25, 2019. Devil May Cry 5 will come to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 8, 2019.
