Wing Island: How to fly a plane with the Wii remote

By Spencer . October 27, 2006 . 7:54am

When Hudson announced a flying game for the Wii it was widely speculated as a sequel to Pilotwings. Later it was discovered that the game is actually Wing Island, a stunt flying game where you guide a group of planes to fly in formation with the Wiimote.

Wing Island uses the Wii remote controller’s tilt sensor to control the planes. If you hold the remote straight the planes will fly in a straight line and tilting it left or right makes the group of planes turn.

Raising or lowering the remote affects the altitude and if you shake the controller you can make the planes do a barrel roll.

The control scheme reminds me of how a child would play with a model plane. It’s simple and easy to grasp, by all ages. Wing Island comes out as a launch title in Japan, but no North American release date has been announced.
