At Siliconera we have a rating system that involves examining at a game's originality, graphics, sound, shelf life (how long before a game gets boring) and most of all is it fun. We also like to examine both the pros and cons of each game, which is listed above a game's score.

Here is the lowdown of the rating scale:

100 = Breakthrough - It is rare that a game is this good, but it does happen. Games that receive this rating are true treasures, genre breakers and something everyone should have in their video game collection.

99-90 = Magnificent - Games that receive this score are highly recommended and are classics that can stand the test of time. These games are enjoyed by fans of the genre and can also be enjoyed by players that don't normally play the game's genre.

89-80 = Impressive - These games are excellent games, but have a few minor flaws. These games still come recommended since fans of the game's genre will enjoy them and are likely to be enjoyed new players too.

79-70 = Enjoyable - Games of this caliber are still good games. For the most part you'll have fun playing them, but these games have flaws that may prevent players outside of a genre from enjoying the game.

69-60 = Decent - Games that receive this score are fun to play for short periods of time. After awhile these games may get boring except for those who are fans of a genre. These games may also have technical problems or a steep learning curve that hinder enjoying the game.

59-50 = Mediocre - At this point games have an equal amount of flaws and redeeming qualities. These games may be enjoyed at a rental level, but are most likely not worth a purchase because there are better games out there.

49-40 = Disappointing - These games are poor attempts at making a game. Games of this level have more flaws than good points and make for a frustrating experience. Some gamers may enjoy these games, like fans of a particular series or character that is starring in the game. Besides that these games may not even be worth renting.

39-30 = "Could be worse" - Games that receive this score are just plain bad, they suffer from either poor design, lack of care or possibly both. One way to look at these games as at least they didn't rank in at any of the lower ranks.

29-20 = "Less fun than a deck of playing cards" - As the title states you'd be better off playing a game of cards with friends or solitaire by yourself instead of this game. These games are plain stinkers, be thankful that we played them so you don't have to

19-10 =  "A good coaster or Frisbee" - These games are best enjoyed by tossing the disc around with a buddy. The only entertainment value they'll give is the fun of opening the package.

09-00 = "So horrible that your game console explodes after reading the disc" - The low of the low in the world of games. These are as rare as a "Breakthrough" game, but when they come around you should check them out. Why? Because it will make you appreciate every other game you own so much more.

We also have a "Game of the Month" award that shows our pick for some of the best titles out there.
