Afrika’s journey to North America is about to end. Natsume announced they will release the virtual safari game on October 6.
Great to see Afrika stampeding stateside. You know, there is another story behind its release. The link between Natsume, Afrika, and Sony Computer Entertainment Japan is a hungry fish!
Sony passed on publishing Afrika outside of Asia, but the safari photo hunt game will get a domestic release from everyone’s favorite Harvest Moon publisher, Natsume.
Sony Computer Entertainment America hasn’t said anything about publishing Afrika in North America. The game is sort of a big deal in Asia since it’s getting fully localized into Chinese with a brand new name, Hakuna Matata. But, maybe, just maybe the Asian version will have English too. Play-Asia has Hakuna Matata listed with English [...]
A curious promotion linked Sony Computer Entertainment Japan with the Excel Tokyu Hotel in Haneda. No, Sony isn’t throwing a launch party with hippos and lions in the hotel. The two companies are partnering to provide a “Direct to Africa” experience. From September 1 to September 30 guests can book a special room that [...]
Afrika is a photojournalism game and Sony sells cameras. Guess what kind of cameras Eric can choose from in Afrika? Eric is the dude with the beanie in the backseat of a Suzuki Jimny. Yeah, there’s more product placement in Afrika. With these marketing tie-ins I’m surprised that Sony hasn’t announced the game for other [...]
Sony will release their safari photo hunt game, Afrika, in Japan next month. Afrika wasn’t around at E3 and there aren’t any announcements about Sony publishing it in North America. The game will see get a release in Asia, but not under the same name. Outside of Japan Afrika has been renamed Hakuna Matata. Yes, [...]
We mentioned this as a rumor two weeks ago and we got this one right. The newly renovated official page states Afrika is scheduled to come out in Japan on August 28. So, what exactly is Afrika? It's a safari simulator where you play a photographer with a robotic camera. Seriously. The trailer shows the [...]
The Afrika retail listing we mentioned last week is getting more interesting. Suddenly, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan is getting ready to pull the curtain off the game after an extended period of silence on the topic. They updated the Afrika site with a walking rhino and a “coming soon” label. Oh and it looks like [...]
Sony announced Afrika back in 2006, before the PlayStation 3 appeared in Japan. Aside from a few promotional videos with lions walking around we don’t know much about what you actually do in Afrika. Will it be a motion controlled jungle safari? Lion taming RPG? (Actually, that could be neat…) We don’t even know if [...]
Straight from the Tokyo Game Show are a bunch of new videos of upcoming Playstation 3 games. Most are fluff trailers that don’t show anything except nice looking graphics (example: Gran Turismo HD). If you want to see a game in action see the White Knight Story trailer. The footage is from Level 5′s work [...]
