Even though Pop’n Music fizzled on Wii, Konami seems like they have other plans for the series beyond more arcade installments.
Konami’s touch screen Bemani game is leaving the arcades and going straight to the iPhone app store.
Konami is finally starting to consider the DS a viable option for its Bemani series of games, as evidenced by the February 2010 release of the music game Utacchi!!
Konami had a build of Pop ‘n Music for me to check out. I played it and fans should know it’s North American debut is very different from the arcade game.
Konami will release Beatmania IIDX 16 Empress + Premium Best on October 15. The latest Beatmania game contains tracks from Empress, a small selection of songs from IIDX 17 Sirius, and a ton of classics.
Before Guitar Hero was a hit and Rock Band was a billion dollar franchise Working Designs attempted to bring Konami’s Bemani music game Guitar Freaks overseas.
Konami sort of brought Pop ‘n Music outside of Japan. Beat ‘n Groovy was a localized version of the arcade music game that perplexed newcomers and alienated fans with its art style. Perhaps, Konami is seriously thinking about bringing the original series overseas.
Jubeat, better known in the States as UBeat, is Konami’s latest music game evolution. The arcade game replaces plastic instruments with 16 versatile buttons. Audio cues and flashing icons let players know which button to hit. While not widespread in North America, UBeat has a following in Asia maybe enough supporters to convince Konami to [...]
Eddie over at Bemanistyle dropped us a line (thanks!!) since an informant came forward with a few screenshots from Konami’s Xbox Live Arcade music game. After seeing the gameplay screenshot Beat’n Groovy is really Pop’n Music USA sans the special controller. The five button layout has been remapped for a standard Xbox 360 gamepad, but [...]
Voltex and Konami haven’t confirmed Beat ‘n Groovy exists even though it’s rated by multiple rating boards around the world. There isn’t any official information about what Beat ‘n Groovy may be, but Destructoid found a tantalizing rumor over at Bemanistyle. An “extremely reliable source” told Bemanistyle that Beat ‘n Groovy contains nine songs including [...]
The existence of Beat'n Groovy leaked out of the OFLC back in April. Konami didn’t say a word about it at E3. However, Beat'n Groovy is rated almost every region as an Xbox 360 title. PEGI, the European rating board, specifically labels it as an Xbox Live Arcade game suitable for anyone older than four [...]
Guitar Hero peripherals were used to showcase Rock Revolution (again) because there isn’t a custom Konami guitar. While Rock Revolution won’t come with a Guitar Freaks controller, Konami’s music game is compatible with the current guitars on the market. Rock Revolution’s focus is primarily on the drum kit which will be sold at the same [...]
All that trademark digging wasn’t a wasted effort. Konami is developing Rock Revolution and its hard not to compare it against Rock Band despite Konami’s history with Bemani. In Rock Revolution players get to bang on drums and strum plastic guitars, but there won’t be any singing. The other difference is the drum has six [...]
Guitar Hero and Rock Band are cash cows. Meanwhile Konami’s series of Bemani instrument games are nearly unrecognizable for the mainstream market Guitar Hero captured. Unfortunately for Konami they may have missed the boat, but that doesn’t mean they are going to give up on the idea of introducing Guitar Freaks and Drummania outside of [...]
Glittering Beatmania IIDX 14: Gold is scheduled for a console release on May 29. Besides the release date there isn’t much to report, but how many more Beatmania games can Konami squeak out on the PlayStation 2. Will we see DJ Troopers? Probably, but beyond that the Beatmania series needs to move somewhere. Where [...]
While we’re on the subject of Bemani, Konami has a decent solution for importers to play Pop’n Music at home without having to search for the official controller. The Pop'n Music Be-Mouse acts as a fully functional optical mouse and underneath the wings is a mini nine button Pop’n Music controller. There are twelve songs [...]
