Before you trek into a dungeon you can purchase provisions in town. The game has quests to take on and events scenes. In dungeons, players can earn experience points, money, and equipment.
Vanillaware and Atlus’s upcoming title, Dragon’s Crown, will be released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita on July 25th, according to a report in Famitsu magazine.
Things have been quiet on the Dragon’s Crown front, but Index/Atlus shared a brief new trailer at last night’s Vita presentation.
We haven’t seen Dragon’s Crown since Index (Atlus’ parent company) acquired the title from Ignition. Sony showed off a bit of the belt action RPG during their webcast.
Index Holdings, the parent company of Atlus, announced their plan for the current fiscal year (September 2012 to August 2013) is to focus on expanding fans with high quality games.
“Since the initial announcement, information on timing and features in the game have changed and other details regarding design and functionality are yet to be determined,” stated Lokesh Dhar, senior vice president of UTV Ignition Entertainment.
Atlus say that staff involved with the Persona games will be working with Vanillware on Dragon’s Crown.
“Concerning Dragon’s Crown, although speculation and rumors are spreading it is still being made. Please wait patiently for a future announcements.”
A couple of readers notified us through our e-mail tip line that their Dragon’s Crown pre-order has been canceled. Vanillaware’s belt floor action RPG (their words, not mine) doesn’t show up in Amazon’s database either.
“In the beginning, it was a Dreamcast project. Before that I had been involved in the development of Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom, and for many years I’ve wanted to make something like that.”
Vanillaware’s Dragon’s Crown has a Tokyo Game Show trailer, too, that gives a glimpse of what appears to be one of the game’s bosses.
“We’re planning to always have some sort of escape route like that for the higher-difficulty bosses,” said George Kamitani, Director of Dragon’s Crown.
Oda gave a specific example, at one point in the game you can steal an item from a boss monster. Steal the treasure and you’ll tick off the boss who will retaliate by chasing you through the stage – even into different dungeons.
