Koei Thinking About Bringing Uncharted Waters Online Overseas?

By Spencer . April 29, 2009 . 7:28am

Tomorrow, a PlayStation 3 port of Uncharted Waters Online surfs into Japan. In the Land of the Rising Sun the game is called Daikokai Jidai Online (The Great Voyage Online). Since the names differ why would Koei register a trademark for Uncharted Waters Online over here?

Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce – Romance Of Monster Hunter

By Spencer . March 11, 2009 . 6:09am

This may sound strange, but Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce is the most evolved version of Dynasty Warriors since the series started. You still push through waves, smaller waves this is a PSP game, of mindless troops. However, Koei tried to make Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce more like a stylish action game. Characters move faster, have evasion tricks […]

Musou Orochi Z Coming Here As Warriors Orochi: The Collective?

By Spencer . March 10, 2009 . 5:48am

Is Koei going to localize Musou Orochi Z, a compilation of the Warriors Orochi games for the PlayStation 3? Of course. What “Something” Warriors game have we missed?   While Musou Orochi Z officially remains unannounced Gamefly has Warriors Orochi: The Collective in their PS3 database. The two titles appear to be pretty connected. If […]

By Spencer . February 27, 2009 . 12:00pm

There are tons of games Nintendo and their third party partners could put on the Virtual Console. North America been missing out on them for months. Now Japan isn’t getting them either. A total of seven Virtual Console games will be released  next month compared to eleven games released in February. Since we already got […]

Another MMO Sailing To The PlayStation 3

By Spencer . February 19, 2009 . 8:22am

The PlayStation 3 may be light on RPGs now, but it’s getting plenty of MMORPG love with games like DC Universe Online, Free Realms, and the Agency in development. Predating all of Sony Online Entertainment’s projects is a title from Dynasty Warriors maker Koei.   Uncharted Waters Online: Cruz del Sur began life on PCs. […]

Love and an expansion pack for Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 are in the air this week. Included in Namco Bandai’s latest batch of downloadable missions is one specially for Valentine’s day.   Ai no Valentine (Valentine’s Love) has players protect an ally from an assault. Do a good job as a male character and you […]

Monster Racers: Gotta’ Race All Of Them

By Spencer . January 15, 2009 . 1:55pm

Believe it or not Koei makes games that aren’t “Something” Warriors. Monster Racers is one their expanded audience games and it’s for the Nintendo DS. The premise of Monster Racers is part platforming, part racing, and part Pokemon. I’m just going to focus on my experience with the platforming/racing part.   Each race is you […]

PlayStation 3 Getting A Warriors Orochi Game

By Spencer . January 9, 2009 . 6:37am

Koei is bringing their Dynasty Warriors / Samurai Warriors mashup to the PS3 on March 12 when Musou Orochi Z comes out. Past Warriors Orochi games were for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PSP.   Since the laconic announcement only mentions the PlayStation 3 Warriors Orochi Z is probably a port of one or […]

Of Course Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 Has DLC

By Spencer . January 8, 2009 . 6:55am

Color me shocked. Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 may not be in stores for us yet, but Japan is getting their first piece of downloadable content sometime this month. Details are vague, but it’s an extra scenario. A free extra scenario. The other scenarios which will follow may or may not be free.   This seems […]

Salamander And Japan’s Other Slim Virtual Console Pickings For December

By Spencer . November 28, 2008 . 5:51am

Virtual Console releases are getting scarcer every month. Next month Wii owners in Japan can look forward to torturing themselves with Mystery of Atlantis. Sunsoft’s side-scrolling platformer is notoriously difficult even if you know the warp order to get to the last level. Koei Japan will also release the Nobunaga’s Ambition in December which is […]

Obscure Koei Games Coming To A Virtual Console Near You

By Spencer . November 26, 2008 . 2:03pm

Koei may be well known now thanks mostly to Dynasty Warriors, but they have been around making historical games on the NES. Since Koei targeted a niche market many of their older games are hard to find and often command premium prices on eBay. Fortunately, the Virtual Console acts as an equalizer for anyone who […]

Koei And Tecmo Merging On April 1, 2009

By Spencer . November 18, 2008 . 12:43am

This isn’t an early April Fool’s Joke. Koei and Tecmo’s discussions have been well received by both companies. In the next fiscal year the two companies will be under the same financial roof. The two publishers will link up to form a holding company structure which will own both companies. Koei stock will be transferred […]

Koei Porting PC Marine MMO To PS3

By Spencer . November 10, 2008 . 9:44am

We know Koei mostly for their Dynasty Warriors games and related spin offs. In Asia Koei has also been trudging in MMO territory with Uncharted Waters Online. Released back in 2005, this MMO sends players into the ocean, but not as pirates. Taking cues from history, Uncharted Waters is set in the Age of Discovery […]
