Flipnote Studio is among the Nintendo DSiWare apps that you won’t be able to transfer to your Nintendo 3DS once you update its firmware next week.

“We’ll include a layering function in Version 2. First, you can draw a rough sketch as one layer, then you can place another layer over it to polish it off.”

The project went through several phases before being finalized. It was initially intended to be a tool to help take notes, and Koizumi and Shimizu considered developing a WiiWare application that would be transmitted to the DS in a manner similar to downloadable DS demos.

We don’t have it yet, but when Moving Memo Pad comes stateside it will have more community features and scribble mail. Moving Memo Pad version 2 lets users jot messages with the touch screen and send them directly to another user.
