The game is almost complete, and the Japanese version will be submitted for approval “in a few days.”

“First and foremost, I always put myself in the player’s shoes. ‘If I were a player how would I think of this? How would I explore?’ and then I take another step,” Daisuke “Pixel” Amaya explained when we were reflecting on level design.

“I learned a lot after releasing Cave Story for DSiWare and WiiWare,” Daisuke “Pixel” Amaya replied with a humble tone. “There were a lot of positive comments, but there were other people who didn’t like the graphic style.”

Cave Story will get its first retail release and NIS America is publishing it. Cave Story 3D is a 2.5D remake of Cave Story with polygon environments and characters.

Nicalis’ portable version of Cave Story is complete and now available on the DSiWare store in North America for 1,000 DSiWare points ($10).
