In Japan, Nippon Ichi are selling a Prinny plush with the dual-wielded Prinny daggers.
Nippon Ichi hinted at two new titles during the 2011 Akihabara winter festival. President Souhei Niikawa took the stage and said they’re working on a new adventure game slated for release in 2012.
Nippon Ichi, developer of the Disgaea series, is expanding into social games. The company opened subsidiary in Japan called Dion Entertainment that will focus on social games as well as online games.
“We’re wondering about that right now because changing Soul Nomad to PSP format takes time to do and the PSP market is waning in North America, so it’s a challenge,” said Souhei Niikawa.
“When we making Disgaea 4, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness was set as the benchmark. All of the fans love Disgaea 1, it’s the original and has the greatest acclaim in the series. We wanted to make a game better than that,” said Souhei Niikawa.
At an Akihabara event in Bellesalle, Nippon Ichi gave fans and press a first look at their upcoming action RPG. They didn’t say much about it, but shared this piece of concept art.
“We’re investigating how the feature works and learning about the system,” said Souhei Niikawa, president of Nippon Ichi Software, in a Siliconera interview.
One title is an action RPG with 3D graphics and full polygons. This title is being made by the Prinny: Can I Really be the Hero? group. We’ll hear more about this title in a month.
That’s Desco offering a congratulatory handshake to Nippon Ichi. The publisher reported 230 million yen in profit in the past fiscal year. A huge improvement compared to the year before that where Nippon Ichi absorbed a 332 million yen loss.
The Prinny publisher adopted “entertainment for all” as their new motto too.
Nippon Ichi is running survey and asking fans which character they would like to see in Disgaea 4.
If you like Disgaea collectables, Nippon Ichi has you covered. Disgaea 4 came out in February and there are already trading figures.
It’s a Nippon Ichi game, so you know Asagi has to make a cameo. For 100 yen ($1.25) you can add the perennial never-going-to-be a protagonist character into Disgaea 4.
Nippon Ichi and Falcom teamed up to bring characters from Ys, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, and The Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kiseki into their retro dungeon crawler sequel ClaDun 2.
