Interestingly, while the amount of time spent playing PC and console games increased by 6% and 9% over last year respectively, gaming time dedicated to portable systems dropped sharply by 16%.
Overall, software sales in May 2010 grew 4% over the same period in 2009, with the majority of top-ten occupants being new releases.
Total industry spend in 2009 was a little over $15 billion. Of that, used games, digital games and other channels of spending accounted for over $4 billion.
The segment of “extreme gamers” represents 4% of the entire American gaming population.
