Hong Kong crime drama game, Sleeping Dogs, is getting its own zombie-style DLC later this month.
United Front Games have shared a little insight regarding the creation of the NPCs and supporting cast that Wei Shen encounters in Sleeping Dogs.
…but none of them were the #1 seller. That honour went to SD Gundam G Generation Overworld.
Also on the list were Darksiders II and New Super Mario Bros. 2, bringing some nice variety to the top-ten. [Updated with some sales figures.]
If you haven’t tried Sleeping Dogs yet log on to Steam, PlayStation Network or Xbox Live. Square Enix just released a downloadable demo for the open world game.
Sleeping Dogs and New Super Mario Bros. 2 were both released on the same day in Europe—August 17th. The former topped the software chart for the week.
It’s clear that United Front Games was influenced by Hong Kong police movies especially Infernal Affairs and Sleeping Dogs’ story is a proper homage to the genre. The fifteen hour core route is thrilling and United Front Games does a fantastic job humanizing the cast.
Square Enix announced that they have plans to support the game with additional content via DLC for the next six months.

Sleeping Dogs from United Front Games and Square Enix is clearly inspired by Hong Kong crime movies. Coming full circle, Square Enix hired Machinima to make a live action Sleeping Dogs film.
The key to the Triad shootouts, it seems, is leaping out of cover. This gives Wei Shen an adrenaline rush and everything slows down. It’s basically Sleeping Dogs form of bullet time.
While slapping enemy with a flounder is one way to knockout thugs, Wei Shen also has brutal environmental kills. If you can get close enough to grapple an enemy you can drop an engine on them or smash their head into a fish tank.
When you break out of cover, Sleeping Dogs briefly goes into bullet-time for a few seconds.
