By Spencer . March 5, 2009 . 9:06am

Korea loves Starcraft so much that local television network MBC Game started broadcasting Starcaft matches on TV. The network expanded to other televised video game matches for Warcraft III, Tekken, and Counter-Strike.

Jupiter’s Motion Controlled Ninja Training Video Game

By Spencer . February 26, 2009 . 12:50pm

Ever seen the obstacle course game show, Ninja Warrior on G4? The source of those competitions is Sasuke, a TV show in Japan, and it’s spin-off Kunoichi. The series is even big enough to get a video game made by the World Ends With You developer, Jupiter.   Extreme Muscle Stadium! Sasuke Complete Conquest replicates […]

It’s Like Taiko No Tatsujin With Your Head As The Drum

By Spencer . February 12, 2009 . 1:39pm

Hong Kong variety/game show Boom Boom Ba is all about music, not video games. A recent episode bucked the trend and dipped into game territory in a silly way.   One contestant would hit falling notes by hitting drums similar to Taiko no Tatsujin. The twist is the drums and other percussion instruments were strapped […]

By Spencer . February 3, 2009 . 1:16am

Introducing Ketai Sousakan 7 (Mobile Phone Investigator Seven), a Japanese TV show where an anti-social high school freshman and his friend, a talking and walking mobile phone named Seven fight cyber crime. Strangely enough this TV show is getting a Nintendo DS adventure game where Keita, the human character, and Seven chat and play mini-games. […]

By Spencer . March 4, 2008 . 3:29pm

I’m not entirely familiar with Doubutsu Kisou Tengai (aka Amazing Animals), but if I recall correctly the show contains a series of animal tricks. Somehow Success Corp is going to turn this into a Nintendo Wii game called Doubutsu Kisou Tengai: Nazo no Rakuen de Scoop Shashin wo Gekishaseyo scheduled to come out May 22. […]

Blue Dragon anime premieres this spring

By Spencer . February 29, 2008 . 5:00pm

And Cartoon Network gets it. No show times have been announced, but it will appear before 11PM since it’s not part of Adult Swim. Perhaps, Blue Dragon will be an addition to the shrinking Toonami lineup?   The timing is spot on too because the Blue Dragon series started airing in Japan last spring. Now […]

360 Live Attack, Korea’s Xbox centric TV show

By Spencer . January 28, 2008 . 2:53pm

MBC Game, the network that primarily shows reruns of Starcraft matches in Korea, has a program dedicated for Xbox gamers called 360 Live Attack. It starts out similar to a news program with two announcers talking about the latest Xbox 360 games. The episode I watched showed Lost Odyssey, which just arrived in Korea, and […]

Future UMD movies are region free?

By Spencer . January 24, 2008 . 8:36pm

I have to commend Sony for openly embracing import gamers. The PSP and the PlayStation 3 are region free for games, but not for movies. The latter is understandable considering movie studios are stuck with draconian product control that has a thankfully easy work around in the form of a region free DVD player. UMDs […]

Live Mario Kart DS matches make a Korean TV show

By Spencer . January 24, 2008 . 1:02pm

The televised Guitar Hero match was just a glimpse into the diversity of video game shows I'm watching in Korea. (Yes, there are more than the Starcraft league.) Champ, a station that usually broadcasts cartoons like YuYu Hakusho, has a program called Run & Run Mario Kart DS. The half an hour long show interviews […]

UMD far from dead? MTV backs PSP video discs

By Spencer . January 24, 2008 . 11:10am

It seems like most retail outlets are having UMD fire sales, but MTV believes the format is far from extinction. A handful of their TV programs (read: not music videos) will be sold on UMD for $14.99. The initial list includes:   "Beavis & Butt-head: The Mike Judge Collection," Vol. 2 and 3 "Jackass," Vol. […]

Korea televises Guitar Hero battles

By Spencer . January 23, 2008 . 10:21am

I have two video game channels on my TV in Seoul. Most of time they play Starcraft matches, but when I was flipping through them last night one of them had a live Guitar Hero battle! I guess I shouldn’t be surprised because Guitar Hero is pretty popular in South Korea. Stores are stocked with […]

From TV to PSP with the touch of a button

By Spencer . January 8, 2008 . 9:57am

Pinnacle's digital video recorder is something Andrew, Jem and the crew of PSPFanboy are going to be drooling over. The gadget has RCA input plugs for a TV, DVD player, etc. on one side and a spot to connect a PSP via a USB cable on the other. Once everything is hooked up you press […]

Watch – The (entire) Simpsons Game

By Spencer . January 3, 2008 . 5:27pm

When I got back to the USA I vowed to catch up on a bunch of games that never appeared in Japan. The Simpsons game was high on my personal list. Not because it was a mind blowing gameplay experience, but because I’m a fan of Homer’s wacky antics. I love the humor and EA’s […]

Dick Tracey and Mr. Magoo games look for a publisher

By Spencer . November 29, 2007 . 2:23pm

Flashman Studios (stupid joke alert: Flashback Studios) acquired the rights to a number of classic TV shows. They have a Dick Tracey game in the pipeline for the DS and Wii made by Codeglue, a Netherlands developer who is working on Worms World Party. The near-sighted Mr. Magoo is getting a video game, based on […]

Guitar Hero spotted in the Simpsons

By Spencer . November 21, 2007 . 11:05am

In this past Sunday’s episode, Bart wanders off into a new comic book store where the owner is seen playing Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution simultaneously. This isn’t the first time the Simpsons touched on video games. Last season the show poked fun at Grand Theft Auto and a much older episode had a […]
