How Did Ignition Entertainment End Up With Muramasa: The Demon Blade?

By Spencer . June 8, 2009 . 12:39pm

Xseed was supposed to publish Muramasa: The Demon Blade, but now Ignition is handling the duties. The sudden publisher switch was unexpected. What happened? During E3 I set out to find out.

Muramasa: The Demon Blade: Haze of Action

By Spencer . April 21, 2009 . 12:28pm

I’ve been playing Muramasa: The Demon Blade as “Princess” Momohime. I put “Princess” in quotes because Momohime is more than meets the eye. She is a furious fighter, a good thing because Muramasa: The Demon Blade is action packed.

Watch A New Muramasa: The Demon Blade Trailer

By Spencer . February 6, 2009 . 8:36am

Muramasa: The Demon Blade comes out in April which means its time for Marvelous to start promoting it. They just released this brand new clip (thanks for the tip Ishaan!!) which shows more areas than the hands-on Tokyo Game Show demo.   See the part where Momohime slices creatures while waves rise in the background? […]

By Spencer . January 30, 2009 . 1:42am

Importers get ready! April 9 is when Japan gets Vanillaware’s 2D action game, Muramasa: The Demon Blade. An international release for the US and Europe has been announced, but we don’t have a concrete release date for either region. Don’t be surprised to see one soon since some US retailers are listing Muramasa: The Demon […]

Muramasa: The Demon Blade Cutting Into Summer Vacation?

By Spencer . December 10, 2008 . 1:45pm

The last time we heard about Muramasa: The Demon Blade was around Tokyo Game Show where XSEED confirmed they were co-publishing it in North America and Rising Star Games mentioned Europe was getting it in November. Fortunately, our wait for Muramasa: The Demon Blade might not be as long Europe’s. Two separate retailers claim the […]

Muramasa: The Demon Blade Slicing Into Europe Next November

By Spencer . October 22, 2008 . 12:32pm

After I played Muramasa: The Demon Blade at TGS I wanted to know when I would continue my adventure past seeing Kisuke standing on a wooden boat rocking in gorgeous 2D waves. Marvelous noted Vanillaware would be done with Muramasa: The Demon Blade sometime next year. Rising Star Games, Marvelous’ European arm, is more specific […]

A Vanillaware Retrospective: Exploring Princess Crown’s Effect On Odin Sphere

By Jenni . September 23, 2008 . 3:37pm

You don’t even have to play Princess Crown to witness the profound effect the Sega Saturn (and Playstation Portable) title has had on its spiritual successor Odin Sphere. While the games tend to have different feels while playing (for example:…

Oboro Muramasa Youtouden (aka that Vanillaware Wii game) lives too

By Spencer . September 2, 2008 . 10:19pm

While there is an influx of hey-that-Wii-game-still-exists news today it’s an opportune time to bring up Oboro Muramasa Youtouden. The gorgeous looking 2D game made an appearance at Tokyo Game Show 2007 – in video form. Marvelous and Vanillaware, the creators of Odin Sphere, haven’t said much about it since . Yasuhiro Wada, President of […]

Mini Screen Gallery – Oboro Muramasa Youtoden

By Spencer . September 25, 2007 . 11:07am

It was quite disappointing that Oboro Muramasa Youtoden was barely seen at Tokyo Game Show. A short trailer ran on Marvelous’ main stage, but besides that Vanillaware’s next project was nearly a no show. These few screenshots and pieces of concept art are all that remains of Oboro Muramasa Youtoden’s TGS appearance. Granted the game […]

Vanillaware’s next: Oboro Muramasa Youtouden

By Spencer . September 5, 2007 . 8:58pm

I think everyone else is talking about this by now, but these scans Jeff L. sent in (thanks again!) are so beautiful we have to post something about Oboro Muramasa Youtouden. The title is coming out for the Wii and it’s made by the creators of Odin Sphere. Surprise! Like Odin Sphere this is being […]

Take a trip through time and the second dimension in Grim Grimoire

By Katie . June 25, 2007 . 1:25pm

Consoles and RTS (also known as real-time strategy) games. At worst, a mixture akin to fire and pressurized gas. At best, a tremulous liaison whose main contributor is a body of triple-A PC titles, ported to the hardware of the day with a good measure of compromise and clumsily remapped to a controller. The success […]

Meet the units of Grim Grimoire – part 2

By Katie . June 18, 2007 . 12:41pm

Lillet Blan, the protagonist of Grim Grimoire begins the game only with the skills to summon Glamour familiars (as seen in the first article). Within the first few hours of the game Lillet also learns how to control phantom warriors and Necromancy magic. Necromancy units are mostly in ethereal form, which means some deal less […]

Meet the units of Grim Grimoire – part 1

By Spencer . June 1, 2007 . 6:58pm

Also developed by Vanillaware (remember Odin Sphere?) is Grim Grimoire, a side scrolling RTS that NIS America is releasing in North America later this month. The story is about Lillet Blan who is caught in a time loop, trapped between five days inside the Silver Star Tower. Lillet is a young sorceress and she doesn’t […]

Odin Sphere: More than just a pretty picture

By Louise . May 18, 2007 . 4:43pm

A side-scrolling brawler featuring 2D sprites.  Same old, same old, right? WRONG! Vanillaware’s latest PS2 game, Odin Sphere is anything but ordinary.  On paper, it sounds like your run of the mill beat-em-up with light RPG elements, but in practice it took my breath away. Sure, it’s the same old story about Valkyries and King […]

Watch: Odin Sphere gameplay footage

By Spencer . May 9, 2007 . 8:04am

In just one week (two for North America) Odin Sphere is going to be on store shelves. Contrary to popular belief Odin Sphere is a 2D action game, similar to Final Fight but with RPG elements and this video demonstrates how the game plays. After you defeat your enemies they release glowing pink psyphers that […]
