This Week In Sales: Pokémon And Monster Hunter Rule Space And Time

The week of January 3rd – 9th saw individual sales numbers on the top-20 chart drop even further than last week, as the holiday spirit cooled off and the market settled back into its familiar trend.

 

Pokémon Black/White are now past 5 million units sold as expected, and show no signs of coming to a standstill any time soon. We remain curious to see if the release of the Nintendo 3DS in February has any impact at all on the two games.

 

Meanwhile, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, still at the top spot, and almost at 4 million units, is now very much in Pokémon territory. The question of how the mainline Monster Hunter and Pokémon games will look in comparison to each other a year or so from now is suddenly very valid.

 

The only new release in the top-twenty for the week was SaGa 3: Ruler of Space-Time – Shadow or Light, debuting modestly at #8, with 27,000 units sold. The top-twenty chart in its entirety is as follows:
