The games industry was down 25% in sales this past March as compared to March 2011, the NPD Group reports. All hardware saw a decline in sales versus last March, although NPD analyst, Anita Frazier, adds that the high-definition consoles fared better than others. The Xbox 360 remained in the lead with 371,000 units sold in March, which accounts for 40% market share.

The top-ten selling games in March were as follows:

Mass Effect 3, which was the best-selling game for the month “sold more than twice as much as did Mass Effect 2 during its introductory month in January 2010” according to Frazier.

Additionally, while it isn’t in the list above, Nintendo’s Kid Icarus: Uprising sold well, too. While the NPD Group doesn’t provide numbers for individual titles anymore, Frazier says that the game was in the top-10 individual SKUs (single platform) for the month.
