Wii U Sells 400,000 Units; 3DS Sells 250,000 During Black Friday Week

We don’t usually get weekly hardware sales figures for North America, but Nintendo America recently shared Black Friday-week sales figures for all their consoles and portables in the U.S. with CNET.

The Wii U, which was released on November 18th, sold 400,000 units during the week. Meanwhile, the Wii raked in another 300,000 units of hardware sold.

On the portable front, aggressive Black Friday deals resulted in sales of 275,000 units of the Nintendo DS last week. Meanwhile, the Nintendo 3DS wasn’t too far behind with another 250,000 units sold.

Wii U sales are constrained by the amount of supply that Nintendo are able to provide, says Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aiime.

“Wii U is essentially sold out of retail and we are doing our best to continually replenish stock,” Fils-Aime said. “Retailers are also doing their best to get the product to store shelves. But as soon as product hits retail, they’re selling out immediately.”

Fils-Aime also added: “You couldn’t walk into a retailer and buy a Wii until spring of 2009. We’ve certainly learned many lessons from that and we are replenishing retailers more quickly this time around.”
