Dragon Quest Monsters 2 Is Selling Rather Well

Last week, Square Enix released a remake of Dragon Quest Monsters 2 in Japan. Originally released for the Game Boy Color, the game’s remake was released for the Nintendo 3DS and sold 443,656 copies in its first week on store shelves.

Japanese sales tracker Media Create says that Dragon Quest Monsters 2 sold through 78.65% of its shipment. Overall, the game’s performance was lower than that of the first Dragon Quest Monsters game, which was remade for Nintendo 3DS in 2012.

The 3DS remake of the first Dragon Quest Monsters sold 513,183 copies in its first week. The game sold through 93.96% of its initial shipment and was sold out at retail stores for a few weeks, meaning that potential buyers couldn’t buy it.

That said, despite the slightly lower performance of Dragon Quest Monsters 2, there is a bright side to the situation. For starters, the game hasn’t sold “badly” in the slightest.

Additionally, having sold through 78.65% of its initial shipment, it is not entirely sold out like its predecessor was at launch, and this will give Square Enix more time to ship additional copies to keep up with demand, instead of suffering a sales opportunity loss due to a lack available copies.
