The Puzzle & Dragons series continues to grow in Japan with not one, but two arcade machines. One is from Square Enix with characters designed by Tetsuya Nomura and the other is a card machine from Pokémon Tretta developer Marvelous.
Technically, Marvelous’ arcade machine is based on the Nintendo 3DS game, Puzzle & Dragons Z, but both games use the same drag and match three drops gameplay. Players scan cards that represent differnt monsters into Puzzle & Dragons Z: Tamer Battle. This game changes the formula with a skill gauge that charges up and the ability to summon powerful monsters like the Lightning Holy Dragon. One interesting twist is the cards have a special ability that can only be activated once per card. When you use a Z bonus, the game cuts a part of your card off.
Puzzle & Dragons Z: Tamer Battle is slated for release this summer in Japan.
