Shenmue III Breaks Crowdfunding World Record, Stretch Goals Revealed

Recommended Videos

Shenmue III now holds the world record as the fastest videogame to raise $1 million in crowdfunding in just 1h 42m. And after raising over $3 million in 48 hours, passing the original $2 million funding goal in less than nine hours, developer YS Net has revealed the stretch goals for Shenmue III’s Kickstarter.

As detailed in the Kickstarter video, the stretch goals are being used to expand three of the game’s areas—Baisha, Choubu, and Bailu Village. This first set of stretch goals go all the way up to $5 million in funding, but only cover Baisha and not the other two areas.

The stretch goals will also unlock other features in the game and some have already been reached, including cinematic shorts based on Shenmue and Shenmue 2, as well as subtitles in the game for German, French, Spanish, and Italian.

The others include a Rapport System at $3.2 million that, it is said, “will add a depth of story, interactivity and character development that only Yu Suzuki can bring.” While at $3.5 million is a Skill Tree System that will “give Ryo a new way to level up and specialize his fighting move set.”

The rest of the stretch goals are spread between $4 million and $5 million and all pertain to expanding Baisha Village. These include five mini-games, an infiltration mission, an additional quest, a “battle event,” and a character perspective system that “will really let you explore the world of Shenmue through the different character personalities.” Unfortunately, any more details about just what these additions will bring haven’t been provided.

If the funding continues to climb as it looks like it will then YS Net says it will add more stretch goals to Shenmue 3’s Kickstarter in the future.
