Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Starts A New Story, Introduces New Actions And Monsters

Recommended Videos

Following the big announcement of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne as the action RPG’s first expansion, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto shared more on what’s to come in a special interview with PlayStation Japan.

Here are some highlights:

  • The concept behind Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is to provide players with more Monster Hunter: World to explore and a new kind of gameplay experience.

  • Monster Hunter: World got its ending in its scenario, but it’ll continue from here with a new story.

  • There will be new actions added. If you purchase Iceborne you’ll get to use those actions in Monster Hunter: World as well.

  • Tsujimoto wants feedback from the fans and community of Monster Hunter: World to reflect in Iceborne. He also wants to prepare something that will allow players to dive into the expansion content with a new gameplay sensation.

  • There will be new quest ranks. In terms of volume the expansion won’t have as much as the base Monster Hunter: World, but they’re preparing something that will satisfy players. Its volume will be similar to what we got in the G or Ultimate updates in past titles.

  • There will be new monsters and there was a hint of one at the end of the announcement trailer. (Nargacuga)

  • The team is putting serious consideration into the gameplay feeling of the action when encountering these new monsters. If they were to make it the same as other monsters then it would lose half its appeal, so “gameplay” is one part that they’re planning out thoroughly.

  • There will be various updates for Monster Hunter: World before Iceborne releases. The Arch-Tempered Kulve Taroth will be available starting December 20, 2018. In January we’ll also get the Appreciation Fest. You can read more about updates here.

  • The Witcher 3 collaboration is also being prepared. The team is working on putting RPG experiences from The Witcher 3 into Monster Hunter: World’s system, so expect to see a new kind of gameplay that we’ve yet to see in Monster Hunter from the collaboration. Capcom is working on it while communicating with The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red to make it into something that fans of The Witcher 3 will also enjoy.

  • Lastly, the Arch-Tempered Nergigante will appear in Spring 2019. This is expected to be the last monster to be added to the base Monster Hunter: World game.

Monster Hunter: World is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Check our previous report for a look at a trailer for the special collaboration with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that brings Geralt of Rivia as a guest.
