Now that it is 2019, we got the latest data from Sensor Tower on the performance of Niantic’s smartphone game Pokémon GO in 2018, where its revenue grew 35 percent over 2017 last year.
According to the data, Pokémon GO’s revenue for 2018 was about $795 million, which was helped by a strong December that saw the global player base spend over $75 million on Google Play, a major increase of 32 percent over the $57.2 million it made in December 2017.
The strong sales are attributed to a consistent rollout of new features and content, including the long-anticipated PvP multiplayer, which helped Pokémon GO’s daily revenue reach $2.2 million a day in 2018, up from the $1.6 per day in 2017.
Players in the United States spent the most on Pokémon GO, with about $262 million, or 33 percent of all gross revenue, which is about the same from 2017. Japanese players, on the other hand, spent $239 million to make 30 percent of the game’s revenue, up from the 25% contributed the year prior.
Since its launch in July 2016, Pokémon GO has amassed a total of $2.2 billion.
