After a bit of a delay due to the holidays in Japan, we got a look at the updated sales chart from Japanese sales tracker Media Create that shared the data from the week of December 24 to December 30, 2018 that saw the release of Go Vacation and Diablo III: Eternal Collection for Switch and Mario & Luigi: Bowser Inside Story + Bowser Jr’s Journey for 3DS.

 

The top-selling title of the week went to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate which continued strong with 275,417 units sold in the week to take #1, for a total of 2,355,186 units sold for Switch since it’s December 7 debut.

When Super Mario Party released for the Switch back in October, not many would’ve predicted that it would stand at #2 in the last week of the year, but the game appears to have reminded Japan how much they loved Mario Party games, as it sits at 841,037 units sold thus far.

Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! & Let’s Go, Eevee! also enjoyed its share of success in 2018 after its November 16 launch on Switch, and it sold 65,497 units to chart #3 in the week. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe made a Golden Mushroom dash to chart #4 with 41,872 units sold, just on time to hit the 2 million milestone before the end of the year with a total of 2,000,142units sold in Japan.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 made its debut last week with the PS4 version on top, but the Switch version struck back in its second week to chart #5 with 34,589 units sold. The PS4 version wasn’t far behind at #7 with 29,877 units sold, right behind Splatoon 2 at #6 with 30,669 units.

 

In hardware sales, the PlayStation 4 sold 58,203 units plus an additional 14,227 from PS4 Pro to combine for 72,430 units sold in Japan in the last week of 2018. The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console of the week with 174,770 units sold to make up about 66% of all hardware sales. Going by Media Create’s figures, the Nintendo Switch is currently at 6,846,784 units sold in Japan since its launch in March 3, 2017.
