After a tease earlier this month, Pokémon Quest, the first Game Freak-developed Pokémon spinoff game which released on Nintendo Switch and smartphones last year worldwide, has been announced for Mainland China with extra features. [Thanks, Bahamut!]

This marks the first official Pokémon game release in the region, although Simplified Chinese has been available in mainline Pokémon games since Pokémon Sun & Moon. The Mainland Chinese version of Pokémon Quest is the result of a partnership between The Pokémon Company and NetEase, and it seems that only the smartphone version of the game is being brought over.

The Pokémon Company and Game Freak have also done brush-ups to the game, and are adding new social features as well as PvP battles as well. Whether or not the global versions of Pokémon Quest will get these features have yet to be known.

In Pokémon Quest, you search for hidden treasure by putting together teams of three Pokémon to explore different locations on the island. Pokémon move and attack on their own, with you controlling when special moves are used. The game features the original generation of Pokémon.

Pokemon Quest is immediately available on the Nintendo Switch and both Android and Apple iOS devices in Japan, North America, and Europe. The game is slated for an April 2019 release in Mainland China.
