Capcom Looks Forward To A Strong Fiscal Year Finish With Resident Evil 2 And Devil May Cry 5

In Capcom’s 3rd Quarter Report the company provided updated forecasts for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019 which will see a late push from two major titles in Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5.

Sales and profits are up year-over-year with contributions from the Digital Contents business. The financial report notes that the sales of Monster Hunter: World has continued to grow and has reached a new milestone of over 11 million in worldwide shipments.

Here’s a comparison in net sales and operating income between fiscal year 2017 and 2018, showing the major increase from digital contents.

We got more details on digital contents performance going back to the fiscal year 2016 plus plans for fiscal year 2019. It shows a steady rise in physical and digital games for consoles but a drop in performance for mobile contents and PC games (primarily online PC games), however, Capcom expects to see these figures rise for the next fiscal year.

Monster Hunter: World on PC is credited for providing a tailwind to sales. Its upcoming Iceborne expansion is also noted as a highlight with its release in fiscal 2019. Rereleases for current-generation hardware and new mid-sized titles have also performed well.

As for mobile content, Capcom highlights the release of its “through the glass experience” Imprisoned Palm: Refrain (Toraware no Paruma: Refrain). However, performance of existing titles have slightly declined.

Lastly, we got a look at the updated sales plan for console games. Capcom’s two major titles of the fiscal year 2019 are Resident Evil 2, which recently hit 3 million units in worldwide shipments, and Devil May Cry 5 which releases worldwide on March 8, 2019. It shows its plans to sell 25 million software units by March 31, 2019 for an increase from the previous fiscal year where units sales reached 24.4 million.

It also expects a rise in sales outside of Japan from 79.5% last fiscal year to 86.4% in the current. 54.8% is expected to come from digital games, and 70.4% from games such as Monster Hunter: World that released prior to the fiscal year.
