Mecha Arcade Game Border Break Is Ending Service On Its 10th Anniversary, September 9, 2019

Sega’s third-person mecha action arcade game Border Break first launched in Japan on September 9, 2009 and it’ll be ending its service exactly 10 years since launch on September 9, 2019, the company announced.

The reason Sega decided to end Border Break’s service was simply because of all the wear-and-tear on all the arcade cabinets that comes from having been in service for 10 years. The company decided that the production costs to keep the service going along with other issues such as replacing the IC Cards would’ve made things too problematic, so it was decided that it would be best to retire the game.

The developers say that they’ve faced many difficulties and struggles to make Border Break happen, but it was something the team was always determined to make into a fun game, and it has since then been a long-cherished title by Sega.

Sega thanks the fans for all the support for the past 10 years, and plan to sell memorial goods for the fans later. On June 22 they’ll host the “Official Border Break Offline Final” event across four venues in Japan. The game will go out with a bang for a “10th Anniversary Commemorative Event” in Tokyo.

Border Break is available in Japan for arcades and PlayStation 4.
