A Capcom Staff Member in Osaka Has COVID-19

Capcom announced that a Chuo-ku, Osaka-based staff member has tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus. As such, it has noted the various processes it will go through in order to ensure anyone at the company who worked with the infected person is notified and enters quarantine and proper cleaning methods are enacted to ensure the place where the person worked is safe for other staff members to enter.

Here are the three specific actions Capcom has committed to taking in response to a COVID-19 case at one of its offices. As a note, unlike companies like Microsoft, Nintendo, and Square-Enix who have all staff working from home now, Capcom’s measures only mention having people who interacted with the infected employee staying at home and don’t bring up any work-from-home initiatives for staff as a whole.

  • Reviewing the employee’s movements, activities and people who may have had close contact with the employee in question
  • Considering the issue of stay-at-home orders for employees who had close contact with the employee in question
  • Disinfecting areas such as the office in which the employee in question works

Capcom did not specify which group company the employee with COVID-19 works for. Its head office and two research and development buildings are all at the Uchihirano-machi, Chuo-ku, Osaka location, with Capcom Maintenance Service also located there. In addition, K2 Co. is located at the Daiwa Kitahama Building in Awaji-cho, Chuo-ku, Osaka.

Capcom is the second company to issue a press release confirming a COVID-19 case among its staff members and going over its approach to handling the situation. The first was Kojima Productions, which moved to a work-at-home situation for all staff, a complete closure and cleaning of the studio, and support efforts to ensure its staff, in general, would be taken care of.

Previously, Capcom had announced Monster Hunter developers would not attend Monster Hunter Festa at PAX East 2020, in repsonse to coronavirus concerns.
