Animal Crossing: New Horizons Scorpions Are Arriving and Tarantulas Are Leaving

There’s something of a circle of life in Animal Crossing games. As months and seasons change, new wildlife will come and go. The transition from April to May is a big one, as Animal Crossing: New Horizons scorpions are about to arrive in the Northern Hemisphere! The downside is, people can say goodbye to tarantula islands, as their last day for a while is April 30, 2020. Though, if your game is set in the Southern Hemisphere, the reverse is true and scorpions are leaving to make way for tarantulas.

This is a notable transition, as both the Animal Crossing: New Horizons scorpions and tarantulas are big ticket critters in-game. Each of these bugs sells for 8,000 bells if you take them to Timmy and Tommy at Nook’s Cranny. If Flick is in town, he’s willing to buy them for 12,000 bells each. However, both sorts of critters are wily foes that will attempt to attack you. If successful, you’ll pass out and find yourself at the door to your home.

In case you haven’t done it before, here’s an old video of my avatar showing exactly how to catch an Animal Crossing: New Horizons tarantula safely.

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons scorpions will leave the Southern Hemisphere on April 30, 2020, presumably to head up up north to vacation in the Northern Hemisphere starting on May 1, 2020. The tarantulas will pass them on the way, as they’re leaving the Northern Hemisphere on April 30, 2020 and arriving in the Southern Hemisphere on May 1, 2020. However, you might need to spend a little extra time looking for them before they go. As a reminder, the 1.2 patch nerfed the appearance rates for many of the bugs in-game.

Also, as a reminder, May 1, 2020 marks the beginning of the May Day Tour in-game. It will be available until May 7, 2020.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available for the Nintendo Switch worldwide.
