The monthly domestic sales report from Famitsu is in, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons is king. The latest installment of the Animal Crossing franchise sold over 2.6 million in copies in ten days. This seated New Horizons at first place among the monthly ranking, with Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX coming in second place with a little over 218,000 units sold. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
In addition to this, Switch sales have also skyrocketed in Japan. In the month of March over 830,000 units were sold. The PlayStation 4 comes in second place at 64,492 units. It is more than clear that interest in Animal Crossing has boosted sales for the Switch. These numbers have been calculated from the period of February 24, 2020 to March 29, 2020.
The Famitsu report for March 16 – March 22 also listed Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the top spot. At the time, the game had sold a total of 1,880,626 units. As it stands, New Horizons is the best debut of a Switch game to date, even beating out Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s 1.22 million units at launch. It is hard to see anything unseat this game any time soon.
