‘Approximately 80%’ of Capcom Game Sales Are Digital

Capcom’s 41st Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders’ question and answer summary was recently shared, following the June 17, 2020 event. One of the questions had to do with the company’s plans for releases going forward. To be specific, it asked the “digital sales ratio” and goals for the future. It was then that the company confirmed that currently around 80% of Capcom game sales are digital ones. [Thanks, GameIndustry.biz!]

Here’s the full response from Capcom regarding its digital sales ratio, taken from the Q&A summary. It confirms the rate is currently at about 80%, but the company would like to reach 90%.

Our current digital download sales ratio is approximately 80%. While it ultimately depends on how our customers behave going forward, for the time being we are promoting our digital strategy with an objective of 90%, since there are some customers who prefer to own discs. We aim to continue expanding our business performance by maximizing the benefits of digital sales, which include being able to provide our content both for longer periods of time and throughout the world.

Capcom also noted it is watching to see how people respond to “cloud and subscription-based platforms,” like say Apple Arcade, especially with 5G on the horizon.

The question about digital game sales and subscription services was one of two that came up during the question and answer summary. The other had to do with the Monster Hunter series. Essentially, it confirmed that a Monster Hunter: World Switch port isn’t in the works, but the company is looking into developing future games.
