The NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella revealed an interesting tidbit about Final Fantasy VII Remake’s sales figures for the United States. The updated take on the first part of Final Fantasy VII is positioned to potentially set some records. Most notably, it is currently the best selling PS4 game for 2020. However, given that it is only May 2020, there is plenty of time for that to change.
The first part of the data came when Piscatella shared The NPD Group’s results for April 2020’s Top 20 Best-Selling Games for the United States. While Animal Crossing: New Horizons held the first-place spot in March 2020, it slipped to third and Final Fantasy VII Remake jumped up to steal first place in the region. Don’t worry, Isabelle fans, as Animal Crossing’s Switch installment is still in second place for the US best-selling games for 2020 so far, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in first and Final Fantasy VII Remake in third.

When it came time to focus on Final Fantasy VII Remake alone, Piscatella noted that its launch month sales, both in terms of how many copies were sold and how much money was made off of it, was a new record for Final Fantasy in the United States. He noted that the last entry to hold that record was Final Fantasy XV, which appeared on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Final Fantasy VII Remake sales have been going rather well in general since launch. It ended up passing 3.5 million copies sold worldwide in just three days. It also was the most downloaded PlayStation Store game in April 2020. Also, while it is only the middle of May 2020, the sales and performance so far should still guarantee it as spot as one of the best selling PS4 games in 2020.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is available for the PlayStation 4. However, its exclusivity arrangement will only be in effect until April 2021.
