Colors! 3D Successor Will Be the Colors Live Switch App

A successor to Colors! 3D has appeared. Jens Andersson has launched a Kickstarter for Colors Live, a Nintendo Switch application that will allow people to draw on the system, and its pressure-sensitive Colors Sonarpen peripheral. It is seeking 150,000 kr ($15,356) by June 12, 2020 to make the project a reality.

Like Colors! 3D, Colors Live will be an opportunity to draw on your system. You can create new paintings, look through online galleries, and see how others’ works are created. All of this is controlled with the pressure-sensitive Colors Sonarpen included with each purchase. It actually plugs into the Nintendo Switch headphone jack and allows people to do pressure-sensitive painting.

Colors Live will also be the first entry with an actual game mode. Colors Quest will have different drawing challenges. Each one will be timed and might have certain rules or restrictions. For example, Challenge 9 in the Kickstarter video is a 20 minute stage with a “fall from the sky” topic that limits people to three different brushes, only grayscale colors, and does allow horizontal mirror mode.

There are three major tiers for the Colors Switch app Kickstarter for those who want to be guaranteed a copy of the application and its Sonarpen when it launches. The $38 Basic Bundle tier gets people a digital copy of Colors Live, the Sonarpen, and a gallery badge. If someone kicks in at the $58 patron tier, they get everything in the Basic Bundle, but also have access to the beta on Windows PCs, the developer forums, get three times as many gallery superlikes, get their names in the credits, and also get to choose their Sonarpen’s cable color and get a pouch for it. At the $602 super patron tier, people get everything from the patron level (though the superlikes are boosted by ten times), get a portrait painting that is also printed and signed and has a video showing its creation, and will be invited to the Colors Live Stockholm, Sweden release party.

Colors Live has an estimated release window of Summer 2020 for North America, Europe, and Australia and of Fall or Winter 2020 for Japan.
