A new trailer for the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty DLC debuted at the 2022 Game Awards, and shows off more of the game’s first major expansion. The trailer hints at new playable areas, a new story, and new cast members, including one played by famed actor Idris Elba. The expansion will launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X (but not the previous-generation consoles).

The Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty DLC appears to take place outside of Night City the setting of the base game. Shots appear of a crashed aircraft resembling a futuristic Air Force One V, the player character, and Johnny Silverhand, converse with a character from the New United States of America (NUSA), one who recommends contact with one Solomon Reed. Reed, who is played by Idris Elba, is a Federal Intelligence Agency (FIA) agent. Reed recommends burning “Dogtown” to the ground, as a means of getting out of whatever crisis V’s landed in. The previous teaser showed V taking an oath of loyalty to the NUSA.
In the world of Cyberpunk, the “old” United States collapsed, with many states seceding to become autonomous or semi-autonomous. California, where the core setting of Night City is located, broke into two states. The NUSA government was reconstituted by the Militech megacorporation, and attempted to forcibly reintegrate the breakaway states in a war 8 years prior to Cyberpunk 2077. Night City, located in Northern California, remained independent in part thanks to the support of rival megacorporation Arasaka. Southern California was reintegrated into the NUSA.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The Phantom Liberty expansion launches on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2023. CD Projekt Red is also working on a sequel to 2077, codenamed “Project Orion”.
